Getting started

Martyn's Law asks those responsible for certain premises and events to be prepared for a terrorist attack. This portal helps you check where you stand, without needing a professional first.

  1. 1Check scope
  2. 2Build your record
  3. 3Keep it up to date

1. Check if you're in scope (always free)

Answer a few questions about your premises or event. If you're out of scope, download your statement, which shows your reasoning if anyone asks. If you're in scope, you'll see which tier applies.

2. Build your preparedness record

License a single location and work through sections A–F. Each question shows where the official guidance is for the topic — all official guidance has a quick link to it in the guidance tab. This will be updated as more guidance is provided from the relevant authorities:

3. Keep it up to date

If something changes, such as a new responsible person or a change in capacity, the portal shows what to do next. That might mean briefing the new person, reviewing your scope or notifying the SIA. Every change is logged.

Why it helps

Your record follows the same clear order and is linked to the legislation. Whoever is asked at an inspection can find the answer and explain why.

Our role and the SIA's

The SIA regulates Martyn's Law, and only the SIA can confirm you're meeting your obligations. Our role is to help you prepare with confidence.
